About the Opportunity

We’re looking for a full-time Senior Lawyer to join our team in Broome, Western Australia.

Reporting to the Deputy Principal Lawyer, this is a vital role delivering legal services in native title, Aboriginal cultural heritage, and Indigenous governance. You’ll work closely with Traditional Owners, PBCs, and native title parties to uphold their rights and build long-term capacity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing advice on native title claims, compensation, and land use agreements
  • Representing clients in the Federal Court and National Native Title Tribunal
  • Advising on cultural heritage and corporate governance
  • Facilitating meetings with clients, directors, and claim groups
  • Mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to team development
  • Ensuring compliance with the Native Title Act, Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth), and relevant laws
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across heritage and future acts

About You

To be considered, you’ll need to be admitted (or immediately eligible for admission) as a barrister or solicitor in the Supreme Court of WA and the High Court of Australia. A minimum of five years' legal experience is highly regarded.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in native title, cultural heritage, or environmental law
  • Litigation experience in the Federal Court
  • Legal advisory work in governance, land use, or mining
  • Experience with Indigenous corporations or PBC governance
  • Cultural competency and community engagement capability
  • Experience mentoring junior legal professionals
  • A strong commitment to Aboriginal justice and equity
